Weekend Recap

I am a big fan of weekends. And this one was particularly good.

Friday:
(Moneystache)
  • Counted my tip money from work. The summer isn't even over and I already have enough money saved up for that which I have been saving for. Awesome.
  • Went to see Brave with the family. I want to publicly thank Magic Mike for allowing me to see a very popular movie in an empty theatre on a Friday night. While I enjoyed my movie, literally every woman in the world stood in line to see Channing Tatum dance in his undies or whatever. Thank you for entertaining the masses.
  • Ate at CC's Pizza. You know that pizza thing that is basically like a flat calzone that everyone always takes before you can get any? Well there was a full one there, and  It was heaven.
Saturday:
  • Work. Ok.
  • So you know that movie "Moon Rise Kingdom"? Well I have pretty much been dying to see it. So my friends Bubba, Travis, Taber, and I plan to go see it. We meet for lunch and through a series of unfortunate events we missed the showing we had planned on. So we decide to go to the ghetto theater's showing that was coming up. We get there and see a sign that reads "Moonrise Kingdom is cancelled for the day". Sadness. We then went to Bubba's house where I was introduced to this:

Why are the stupidest things the funniest? I basically cannot stop laughing about this.

Sunday:
  • Slept in. Yes!
  • Church. Amazing as always.
  • Chili cook off.
  • Pushing Daisy's marathon. Does anyone else love this show as much as I do? If you don't know to which show I am referring, please do yourself a favor and look it up. Then buy all the seasons (two) and watch them again and again. Then cry with me because the show was cancelled.

P.S. Skittles is really good.

Weekend Recap

See that snow cone up there? Well it's not really a snow cone. It's a piccadilly and if your unsure what that is then please do let me explain.

So the other day I was talking to my friend Tabby and she mentioned something about a piccadilly and I had heard that name before but had never known what it was. She told me that it was basically a snow cone with koolaid powder and pickles. I thought "What the..." Basically I was very intrigued. So we made plans to get some. I then asked several other people about them and they swore by them. So this week we finally went to try them. First of all, the lady that took my order had rainbow hair and was really rude. Isn't that a contradiction? Because rainbows are kind of a happy thing. Right? Anyways.

I got the tropical punch flavored Koolaid. I am not completely sure if I liked them. I liked the concept but eating it was really really hard. It may have just been the flavor I had because I tried Tabby's and hers was better than mine. I am really glad I tried it though! I am trying to be "up for anything". Which in my mind basically means trying new things and doing stuff I normally wouldn't. So yay for piccadillies!

In other news.

I got some new lipstick! (This crappy webcam pic doesn't do it justice.) My lips have basically been going crazy in the dry Utah weather and I hadn't been able to find a long lasting lipstick that doesn't dry them out. Since I am now living in the horrid humidity I haven't lotioned my skin (except my face which I lotion everyday) once! So my lips are starting to get normal again. So I tried Revlons Lip Butter (from that one commercial with Emma Stone). It was on sale! I have been wearing it for a couple hours and my lips feel and still look great! It wasn't expensive, it doesn't turn my lips into the sahara desert, and it doesn't flake! My lips new best friend. What your favorite lip stick?

In other news.
I saw that Snow White and the Huntsman movie. I was pleasantly surprised at how well Kristen Stewart did. Or maybe my mind was clouded by the fact that Thor decided to give up his hammer thing and divinity and become a drunken huntsman who falls in love with the fairest of them all (Kristen Stewart). Don't worry... I didn't spoil a thing.

In other news.
I watched a freaky movie just now and am putting off going to sleep because I am pretty sure I am going to have nightmares about a creeper having secret peep holes that look into my house and he sits there watching me while rocking back and forth. Then I find out and he kills my boyfriend (Ned from Pushing Daisies), tries to kill me, and then I kill him with a nail gun. Also this creeper is that guy that the girl in P.S. I Love you ends up with in the end and now I can never again be attracted to him. It's ok if you have no idea what I was just talking about. I am sure you'd rather not know.

"Happy Monday!" Said no one ever... unless it's a holiday.

I. love. monday. holidays. You don't spend Sunday night with that terrible "tomorrow is a work day" cloud hanging over head. I did have to work today which was a bummer, but only for a couple hours and it wasn't busy at all! I am so glad that everyone decided to BBQ today instead of going out to eat. Thank you world.

I am going to spend the rest of the day working on a o it yourself project that I will be sharing here, making veggie boats which I will also share here, and going to a pool party that I will probably share photos of here. So I guess you can look forward to that this week?

Also, just when you thought this day couldn't get any better! My etsy shop (Hello Wallflower) is giving away two pairs of lovely earrings on the blog Shy scout! So go check out her blog (which is lovely) and enter the giveaway! The giveaway closes Friday, June 8th @ midnight!

Thank you to all those serving for our country!

Happy Memorial Day!

Weekend Recap.

Lets talk about the fact that I was in very close proximity to a tornado but didn't know it. Lets also talk about how I was driving a couple friends up to San Antonio when it started raining cats and dogs and my windshield wiper decides to break and fling itself across the windshield while we were in the middle of nowhere. Lets also talk about how my friend Travis stood out in the rain and tried to fix it but couldn't. Lets also talk about how I pretty much blindly drove to the nearest gas station and waited out the storm and feared tornados.

phew. That was an adventure.

Later that day we drove from San Antonio to Austin for a concert and then Travis realized that he had forgotten the concert tickets in Corpus Christi. So we had to buy more tickets. Then there was a mosh pit and there were so many people that I was basically suffocating because of the smelly man next to me. Then people decided to throw full beer cans and sweaty shirts across the crowd and I feared diseases and projectiles.

Basically my weekend was chaos and for that I blame Travis. But I actually had a really good time. Crazy adventures are not only comically fun but are also very good stories to tell your grandkids. And when I say "tell your grandkids" I mean "warn your grandkids".

What did you do this weekend?

Easter & the Weekend.

The weekend was glorious. It was nice to not have to think about school, finals, essays and moving for a little while. Friday night I went to a bachlorette party at Spark, my favorite place, and had way too many mocktails. I decided that if I was a drinker I would be in big trouble because... I. Like. Fancy. Drinks.

I look completely crazy in this picture.. Partly because it was taken on a phone, partly because the lighting was really low, and partly because I was the only one to actually dress up really fancy and wear lots of jewelry and make up (I don't normally wear crazy make up... but I thought that a bachlorette party was a good occasion). I went for the granny glam look. Also that Shirley Temple with the cotton candy  was divine.

Saturday I went to an "almost" pool party. The apartment complex told our group of 10 that we weren't allowed in the pool... Besides the fact that I didn't get to wear my new swim suit... playing card games on the living room floor was fun too. On Sunday after church, Courtney came over. We had an easter bucket hunt in my living room. Mine was in the suitcase, Courtney's was in the oven, and Ashley's was behind the furnace. Once we found our buckets we pigged out on the huge amounts of candy that we each got. I swear that my bucket weighed at least 4 pounds... We did the same thing last year and it was just as fun! The crazy part is that I still have candy left over from last year! It's not even the bad candy, its all candy that I love, but I never ate it... I also still have a package of peeps left over which is also very crazy because... I. Love. Peeps. I saved them so that we could have peep roasting party, but somehow that idea got lost amongst the busyness of the year. Maybe someday we will get to it.

The coming two and half weeks will be crazy, but hopefully after that I can focus more on the blog! I have a lot of really awesome things planned & I might be getting a blogging buddy very soon!

A Couple Weekends Ago.

Sometimes I am so lazy with uploading my pictures…

These are from a couple weekends ago when Courtney, Ben, Ashley, and I went down to Provo. We went to the temple (I forgot to renew my recommend so I had to wait outside. And it was sooo windy and freezing. I sat outside as long as I could handle it. I then waited the rest of my time in the waiting room watching the same movies like 20 times.) Then we went to Spark which is the bomb restaurant that we had Courtney’s bachlorette party at. They serve mocktails. So bomb. (Then I didn’t take any pictures of my mango mojito….)

Lovely Saturday

Last night I had strange dreams. They were scary. Someone in a canoe was fatally shooting people. I was climbing down a tangle of metal pipe while dodging bullets. So when I woke up close to 10 I was ready to get up. In my dream it was my job to capture the killer and i’ll have you know that it is very difficult to find a man in a canoe with a gun that shoots in every direction.
Another strange thing happened this morning. I baked stuff. I am not at all a cook, and this morning I got up and made a pumpkin pie. I know… I am baffled. I then made pumpkin pudding with the left over pie filling. It’s yummy. You may ask why I did this… That will become apparent in my next blog post.
Can I just say that today was glorious!? Ashley and I did so many amazing things!
image

1. We went to General Conference. We were so lucky to get some tickets last week. There was so many people there. This time I made sure not to miss the entrance of the Prophet. It was better then I expected. Everyone was silent. The spirit was so strong.
image

2. After conference Ashley and I were starving so we headed to the Blue Plate Diner. Ashley’s friend had told us about it being on the “Diners and Drive Ins” show on the food channel and we have been wanting to go since. It was such an awesome atmosphere, the food was delicious, and the only thing I didn’t like was this pesky little fly. I definitely recommend the place. The diner is located at 2100S 2100E. You must go.

3. We had passed by our most favorite place to get fro-yo while driving to Blue Plate so we decided to stop back by there and get some Red Mango! I had the pumpkin spice with fresh strawberry and chocolate chips. You wouldn’t think that strawberry and pumpkin spice would taste so well together… but it was divine!!!

This day was so lovely and it isn’t even over yet! We are thinking of a little grocery shopping, a movie, or maybe just enjoy being at home…

Jam & Cookies

This weekend Courtney roped me into helping her & Ben make Jam. Pear Jam. Strawberry Jam. Concord Grape Jam. Not only were we making jam… but we were canning it so that in a few years we can eat this jam when the world is coming to an end. This jam will be a small treasure in a world of darkness. Ok… that was a joke. I doubt that the jam will last that long because we will be eating it. Maybe a couple months to a couple more months… but you never know…

Our jam tastes lovely. I didn’t get a chance to photo document the actually canning because it is quite dangerous and intense. Multiple people were burnt. If you have ever done any canning without an actually canning machine then you know what I am talking about. Well… maybe you don’t because you probably are much better and have a much less dangerous method of canning  down pat. We were inexperienced.
image

After that lovely (and when I say lovely I mean not very lovely) experience of making and then canning jam, we decided to celebrate our completion with a Papa Murphy’s pizza and a half dozen Ruby Snap cookies!
image

I have talked about Ruby Snap before and I will talk about them many more times to come. They are so delicious!!!!! Guess what I just recently discovered!?! If you are not fortunate enough to live in the Salt Lake area you can order frozen cookie dough by the dozen and have it shipped directly to your homestead! I highly recommend doing so…
image

Do they not look divine?! If you don’t think so then you are definitely mental, because they are baked heaven. Each cookie has a pinup girl name such as Penelope (the peanut butter cookie dipped in chocolate on the far left), Judy (orange with orange cream cheese frosting second to the left), & Mavis (a chocolate dough that has a slight kick. I can’t remember what exactly is in it but it is glorious). The cookie in the middle with the fresh strawberry on top is the cookie of the month. It is a strawberry peach cobbler cookie with goat cheese frosting and fresh strawberry on top.
Such a lovely weekend…

Labor Day & The Week That Followed

Monday was wonderful, just wonderful. Ashley and I woke up to Rooney “I Can’t Get Enough” breaking the silence of our humble abode. That song is my ring tone for when Courtney calls. I answered the phone to silence the sound but was once again greeted with enormous amounts of sound. Courtney was far past enthusiastic. It was 10:00. No one should be as vivacious at 10 am on Labor Day. Ashley and I stayed up way too late looking at pictures. After I talked to Courtney, both Ashley and I fell back asleep. We then woke up an hour later to prepare for our day.
We had a picnic! I made this bomb salsa. Courtney and Ben supplied bomb sandwich fixings, and Ashley contributed some very yummy cookies. Once we got to the park, laid out our blankets, and took in the wonderful day I came to a sad realization…. Last winter I promised myself that I would go on picnics all the time during the summer. That didn’t happen. I went on one once the summer began, and one at the end. I can probably fit a few more in before it gets too cold, but I am still very disappointed in myself.

Our picnic was fantastic. We ate, laughed, told stories, held a mini jam session, and made failed atempts at long boarding down a hill. Ok… Ben suceeded. I failed. THe best part was the weather. It wasn’t too hot, or too cold. It was just right.
If you haven’t picnicked before or just haven’t in a long long time… I suggest doing it now. Before the frost of winter creeps in. It is such a wonderful pass time.

Also… I have greeat news! I had to draw a picture of an egg for my drawing class. I was so terrified that I would have the worst drawing in the class. So I spent tons of time working on it. I was very unsatisfied with the way all my shading. It just looked like lines to me… That is not the great news… So the drawing turned out pretty good. I was proud of it, but still very terrified of the class critique. Well…. My egg was one of the best in the class! It was one of the only ones that my teacher said did not need to be fixed. I received many compliments. Suffice to say… I am very happy.

The Weekend

Sunday night. Ashley is off at her friends house for dinner & Courtney has moved out. So I am alone. I don’t mind. I am actually quite enjoying myself. I think that the reason that I am so content is because tomorrow is Labor Day and I don’t have to go to work. Sunday night I always feel like I need to pack as much excitement into the few remaining hours of my weekend. Today I don’t feel that way.
I spent an hour working on my drawing of an egg for my drawing class. You wouldn’t think it would be that hard to draw an egg, but I am being a perfectionist about it, and let me say… my egg is far from perfect. I am kinda freaking out about my drawing class. I am terrified of all the graphic designer majors, and artists in the class will say my egg is terrible during the critique.
Anyways… after drawing I found myself eating a sandwich and watching Flight of the Concords. Good stuff. Relaxing.
Friday Ashley, Ashley’s cousin, & I went to Red mango. Best place ever. I mean seriously. Frozen yogurt with fresh fruit is amazing. This time I got the pomegranate frozen yogurt with fresh pineapple, strawberries, & some chocolate chips (because it was one of those days that make chocolate needed). Let me tell you… their fruit is not that crappy out of the can fruit. It is freshly cut. I mean the pineapple is so fresh that it melts in your mouth the way seriously fresh pineapple does. It was so yummy. If you live in the vicinity of a Red Mango you must go there and experience the party in your mouth that occurs when you partake of their fro yo.

Mine is in the center.
After that we went to the park and fed the ducks with the loaf of bread that Courtney left at our house.

That goose with his mouth open continually hissed at me as I fed him. Jerk.

One Weekend Several Weeks Ago.

Another extremely late post…. I know… Excuses excuses. I’m slacking off. But I really loved this weekend. It was one of the funnest in a while. The following is from roughly three weeks ago….
image

image

Besides the fact that I have been feeling like death every morning when I wake up, I did have a great weekend. The feverish feelings came and went, but the fun stayed. It twas a strange weekend for me. Normally whatever the heck is raging inside me that causes my throat to hurt, nose to itch, eyes to water, body to weaken, and head to ache would keep me from my weekend activities. But it didn’t. Courtney, Ben, and I tagged along with another YSA wards weekend activities. We went out to Willard Bay to spend the day swimming, boating, lounging, sand castle building, canoeing, and mucho more. It was so beautiful there. In the morning the water looked hazy, and calm as it spread out beneath mountains. As the day moved on the calm lake was disturbed by boats and people.
image

I was surprised I even got into the water. The sun was hidden by clouds which kept the nice assurance of the sunshine off my back. The water was brisk. In Texas I have a hard time getting into lake and river water, because lets face it, they are always really cold. I never thought I’d get in the water in Utah, but thankfully I did. At one point we got to ride in a boat out to the middle of the lake and swim. I have never swam in the middle of a lake before. I am always freaked out by unknown depths. I always fear that I will be eaten alive by gators or a monster similar to the Loch Nest Monster. Surprisingly I wasn’t afraid. Probably because I was baffled by the beauty of the mountains. As we played in the water I couldn’t help being reminded of the beach back home, although it was so different. The wakes from the boat made me feel as if I was being tossed back and forth by the waves of the ocean. It made me miss home. I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to experience the unfamiliar, to step out of my comfort zone, and embrace the world. As much as I miss my family, and the beach, and my Texas I know this is where I am supposed to be.

See that sandcastle right there?! You do? Well isn’t it awesome!? It is. That is the sand castle that Ben, Courtney, Justina, and I built. OK so It was mostly Ben and I, but we let Courtney and Justina help with the finishing details. The little hut in the middle is of my creation. I consider myself an expert sand castle builder. Being from the coast I have built many of sand castles in my day. Back home I have my own set of sand castle building tools. Now, when you look at this little hut you might notice that it is not extremely detailed and stuff. Well the sand is just not the right sand. The grains of sand are not as fine as on the Texas coast… Yeah so I am not very humble when it comes to sand castle building…
Probably because our team won the sand castle building contest!!! WE WON! Our prize was a small little trophy cup (Justina pointed out that it looks like the little horcrux cup in the last Harry Potter movie), and a $5 gift card to Cafe Rio!
When we finally got home from the lake we were all exhausted. I took a short nap. I couldn’t sleep long because I had all these ideas running rampant through my head. When I got up I did absolutely nothing about them. But we did go to the drive in and see Captain America & Harry Potter. Both very good movies. We had a wonderful time.

Wishing it was still the weekend…

Tea Parties, Dresses, & Craft Weekend.

Yes, this is a very very late post. We didn’t have internet for the week….  Last weekend was so busy. I felt as if I had no time to lay around and do nothing. Friday I helped Ben move into Courtney and Ben’s new apartment. I may or may not have backed into his roomates car. If I had actually done that I would have to explain that I did not see it. Also, I looked to see if it was there. Also, there was a dent. Then the dent popped out. There was not really any damage. So if that had really happened… Everything would have been ok because Ben’s roomate would not have been mad. Phew… Friday was a bad day for me… Was Friday the 13th? Because it totaly could have been, because just about everything that could have gone wrong did. Even my little keychain that Ashley got me from Barbados broke. His little body fell off his head. I seriously cried. It wasn’t really that my key chain broke, eventhough I love it, it was more the fact that my day continually got worse, and that little key chain was the breaking point. Now I have a decapatedted key chain. It kindof resembles those little shruken heads in that bus in Harry Potter. I think Ashley might like that refference.
Saturday I was awaken by a more then bubbly roomate. She jumped on top of me as I sleeped. Not cool man, not cool. She awoke me at 9:02!!!! Really? I needed to wake up though. I had a lot to do. I got ready and then Courtney and I went to run some earrands. We did some thrift shopping for a hutch for her new apartment bathroom. Not sucessful. Then went to Urban Outfitters to exchange some shoes.(about that. So a few weeks ago I decided to purchase these sneakers because I need some cute sneakers. I bought two pairs because they were two for $30. Good deal. I tried on a size nine in these awesome navajo triangle ones and loved them. Then I decided to go with the red ones too. I just grabbed a size nine and left. Later when I got home I put them on and they were way to small, so I thought I accidentaly got a size 6 and just misread the tag. So Saturday I take them back and get a size 9. Then I take them home and they were too small again. I was so confused. Apparently the patterened shoes are different then the solid ones. So I will be taking these back and actually taking time in finding the right size…. I am an idiot.) After Urban Outfitters we got a gourmet cookie at the local shop Ruby Snap. I think I will dedicate a later post to Ruby Snap. It is not only amazingly tasty, but so cute! After eating some grub cookies we picked up Courtney’s wedding dress. It’s gorgeous.
Then we went straight home to cook and clean. We didn’t have much time to make our home presentable before people began arriving for the Bridal Tea Party that I was hosting. This party was a success. I had a grand time setting up the display of food and beverages. The guests enjoyed the chicken pockets that Courtney made, and I think that everyone enjoyed the games. Courtney got some very nice gifts. I was jealous of some particular items.

(Aren’t these things amazing! Made by Courtney and Carli)
Sunday evening wwas dedicated to crafting. We assigned ourselves the heious task of making a bouquet, mini bouquets, center pieces, and bouteneers out of handmade felt flowers. My hands were in pain after constructing so many flowers, and we aren’t even close to being done… Pictures are to come. They are very cute.
By the way… Our latest obsession which is the Glee Project was really good last night. We are looking forward to the finale next Sunday!
