No fireworks.

(Photos circa last year)

I am actually really sad to admit that I didn't get to see a single firework this 4th of July. This makes me extremely sad because fireworks are like my favorite thing ever. I spent the day playing kickball, eating freedom toast (french toast), finally getting to see Moonrise Kingdom, eating brisket, watching Independence Day, and playing Halo. The last one was not by choice. Unfortunately I spend my time with a bunch of guys who would rather play Halo than go see fireworks. I don't know how may times I said "Ugh. So bored." that night. Probably more than I can count. I also said "Stop killing me" just as much because I am terrible at Halo and they kept killing me because they knew I couldn't kill them even if they stood still.

Anyways... Today I am leaving for Austin. We are having a little family get together at my aunts house. It will be nice to see all of the family again. I haven't seen some of my relatives in years! I am looking forward to relaxing in the pool, good food, and family time. I'm hoping there will be fireworks somewhere. If I don't forget to get out my camera, there will be photos to come.

How was your 4th? What are you doing this weekend?

Weekend Recap

I am a big fan of weekends. And this one was particularly good.

Friday:
(Moneystache)
  • Counted my tip money from work. The summer isn't even over and I already have enough money saved up for that which I have been saving for. Awesome.
  • Went to see Brave with the family. I want to publicly thank Magic Mike for allowing me to see a very popular movie in an empty theatre on a Friday night. While I enjoyed my movie, literally every woman in the world stood in line to see Channing Tatum dance in his undies or whatever. Thank you for entertaining the masses.
  • Ate at CC's Pizza. You know that pizza thing that is basically like a flat calzone that everyone always takes before you can get any? Well there was a full one there, and  It was heaven.
Saturday:
  • Work. Ok.
  • So you know that movie "Moon Rise Kingdom"? Well I have pretty much been dying to see it. So my friends Bubba, Travis, Taber, and I plan to go see it. We meet for lunch and through a series of unfortunate events we missed the showing we had planned on. So we decide to go to the ghetto theater's showing that was coming up. We get there and see a sign that reads "Moonrise Kingdom is cancelled for the day". Sadness. We then went to Bubba's house where I was introduced to this:

Why are the stupidest things the funniest? I basically cannot stop laughing about this.

Sunday:
  • Slept in. Yes!
  • Church. Amazing as always.
  • Chili cook off.
  • Pushing Daisy's marathon. Does anyone else love this show as much as I do? If you don't know to which show I am referring, please do yourself a favor and look it up. Then buy all the seasons (two) and watch them again and again. Then cry with me because the show was cancelled.

P.S. Skittles is really good.

Easter & the Weekend.

The weekend was glorious. It was nice to not have to think about school, finals, essays and moving for a little while. Friday night I went to a bachlorette party at Spark, my favorite place, and had way too many mocktails. I decided that if I was a drinker I would be in big trouble because... I. Like. Fancy. Drinks.

I look completely crazy in this picture.. Partly because it was taken on a phone, partly because the lighting was really low, and partly because I was the only one to actually dress up really fancy and wear lots of jewelry and make up (I don't normally wear crazy make up... but I thought that a bachlorette party was a good occasion). I went for the granny glam look. Also that Shirley Temple with the cotton candy  was divine.

Saturday I went to an "almost" pool party. The apartment complex told our group of 10 that we weren't allowed in the pool... Besides the fact that I didn't get to wear my new swim suit... playing card games on the living room floor was fun too. On Sunday after church, Courtney came over. We had an easter bucket hunt in my living room. Mine was in the suitcase, Courtney's was in the oven, and Ashley's was behind the furnace. Once we found our buckets we pigged out on the huge amounts of candy that we each got. I swear that my bucket weighed at least 4 pounds... We did the same thing last year and it was just as fun! The crazy part is that I still have candy left over from last year! It's not even the bad candy, its all candy that I love, but I never ate it... I also still have a package of peeps left over which is also very crazy because... I. Love. Peeps. I saved them so that we could have peep roasting party, but somehow that idea got lost amongst the busyness of the year. Maybe someday we will get to it.

The coming two and half weeks will be crazy, but hopefully after that I can focus more on the blog! I have a lot of really awesome things planned & I might be getting a blogging buddy very soon!

Weekend.

So it is currently Sunday night and I am sitting on the couch with Courtney and Ben. My current attire is a black  1920’s flapper dress with yellow monkey PJ pants from my middle school years underneath. Why you ask?! Because we were watching our favorite show that is called Project Glee (if you haven’t watched it you should.) Why am I obsessed? Because it is sooo good. Although I have never once seen an episode of Glee, I do love Project Glee. What is Project Glee you ask? It is a competition between talented young-ins who are each busting their butts to become the next member of the Glee cast. Today’s episode almost made me cry. I thought that my favorite contender was going home. Thank goodness he didn’t. I no doubt would have balled my eyes out if my little Cameron had left.
Here are several reasons why I love Cameron.
First of all, he is from Texas! That automatically makes him awesome. Therefore going to win.
Second, he’s an amazing singer.
He’s got a Weezer-esque kind of style. And I love Weezer.
He can pull stuff off that no one else in the world could. He does all these sweet moves when he jams out on the guitar that give him such a cool persona.
He’s not a jerk. He has no idea how absolutely cool he is.
Anyways… The flapper dress. Courtney and I both have flapper dresses that we got for this 1920’s Murder Mystery dance that we once attended. While watching the Glee Project we noticed that they were wearing the exact same dress that Courtney had, so during a commercial break we put them on and danced around the living room. I love dancing around the living room with Courtney. We always have the best times. Ben has a great time watching us, because I am almost positive that we look completely ridiculous.
So this weekend we had a pretty good time. Since last weekend was ruined by my stupid decision to pick up trash at a county fair with a whole bunch of creepy hobo’s, I decided to make this weekend not suck.
Friday: After work Courtney, Ben, and I went to Courtney’s cousins birthday party. Best part about that was that we had way grub fajitas. I haven’t had fajitas like that in so long. No one in Utah knows how to make fajitas. This is something that I need to learn how to make. I don’t think I can go another 5 months without those babies. Afterward we had this great conversation about the Beatles with a true Beatles lover. I love Beatles conversations, there’s nothing better then sharing your favorite Beatles songs amongst other Beatles enthusiasts.
Once we left the party things got a little interesting. We decide to go to Walmart to pick up a couple things, and on the way Courtney and I began sharing stories about our younger years. Courtney told this story of how our best friend Kristy’s brother may have seen her in her underwear, if you know Kristy at all you would find this die hard funny. Suffice to say, I was laughing hysterically in the back seat of Ben’s little VW. Then I look to my right to find a man in a white car waving at me to roll down my window. We do so and this is the following conversation.
Man: “What are you laughing at? Is it me? What did I do?”
Courtney: “Oh, no we aren’t laughing at you. I just told a funny story.”
Man: “Oh! Well I want to be a in on it.”
Courtney: “OK, I just told them about a time that this guy saw me in my underwear.”
Man: bursts out laughing “Funny story!”
So we then continue down the road still laughing. Then all of a sudden this huge black truck gets really close to us. I look up at the guy who is yelling at us! He is purposely moving over into our lane to scare us. We were all very confused by this. Wouldn’t you be? He had absolutely no reason to be mad. I found this completely hilarious so I began laughing harder then I was before. This obviously upset the jerk so he speed off while yelling what I believe to have been expletives. I think he was probably jealous that Ben had two beautiful girls in his little VW, and he had absolutely no girls in his big black truck. No one likes a jerk…
Saturday: We went for a bike ride to this little park by Ben’s house. We did a little geo-caching, a little sitting by the pond, and some photographing. We had an amazing time. I love being out in the sunshine. I am not at all looking forward to the winter, I am expecting on being depressed and sad. In Corpus we pretty much have year round sunshine, here in Utah it is not that way at all.
Saturday evening we went to the Jordan River temple. Obviously that was amazing.
Later that night we headed over to Ben’s house to watch Rango. On the way Courtney and I were jamming to some Cake on CD. “Short Skirt Long Jacket.” That song is so good. We then discover that Courtney’s head light is out so we took my truck. Then that very song by Cake was playing on the radio! If you lived in Utah you might understand my excitement about this. I personally hate the radio. They mostly play crap. I recently found an alternative radio station that plays good stuff occasionally. I was just so happy to hear Cake I said “Wouldn’t that be so cool if Foster the People “Pumped Up Kicks” (my current jam) came on the radio on the way home from Ben’s tonight?!” It totally did. I called it.
Speaking of short skirts and long jackets… Guess who I think Cake is singing about. Believe it or not, but Shaniah Twain wears that exact attire in her “Man I feel Like A Woman” music video. The mysterious strange attired woman has been revealed.

Memorial Weekend.

Here are several photographs to illustrate our Memorial day weekend adventures. We did tons of sight seeing, and I took tons of pictures. I turned into my father who I always laughed at for pulling over all the time to take pictures, and getting excited about junk (that term is literal) and taking pictures of it. I basically had my camera around my neck all weekend.
We headed up to Moroni and stayed with Ben’s family, did a little rock band (well tried to…), then a little geo-cashing, and then took some extremely long scenic routes through the mountains driving on tiny switchback roads only to find out that we could not go any farther because the snow had not melted off the road yet. But it was all worth it. Standing on a mountain and looking out over the valley to the neighboring mountains could never get old to me. There is just so much to see. I have fallen in love with the mountains. Sorry Corpus… your beaches cannot beat the views I was blessed to see this weekend.
I absolutely love traveling. Getting to experience new things. It is not just the place your going, but the road traveled as well. I hardly ever get bored riding in the car. You are probably wondering how…
Here are a few suggestions to keeping your car ride interesting.
1. Listen to your favorite jams. Today mine included Rooney, and Vampire Weekend. I just needed something that would keep me and Courtney (the driver) awake.
2. Playing car games such as the license plate game, or Would You Rather.
3. Stopping often. If you see a place that catches your eye, don’t just drive on by it. Stop and see what it is. If it is not that cool then just get back in the car and keep going, but if it is cool stay a while and explore. Some of the most amazing things are in between you and your destination.
4. My personal favorite (don’t judge). I like to look out the window at the scenery passing by and imagine myself out there doing extraordinary things. While driving through these wide valleys I imagined myself as a cowgirl being chased by bandits. I sat backwards on my horse, dogged bullets, and sent some flying. Once the gun smoke cleared I discovered that I had came out victorious over all 88 of them bandits. I then stopped at the nearest saloon, walked in through the swinging doors, and ordered me a Sasperilla. Calamity Carli was my name.
If that is too extreme as a pass time for you then you might as well be bored.
Don’t get so caught up in moving from point A to point B that you don’t see what your passing by. Sometimes what you overlook could be much better then you destination.
Thats all for now,
   Calamity Carli.

Two Days Is Not Enough.

It’s sunday night. I am doing homework. Courtney is taking an early evening nap. I don’t really understand her reasoning. She gets into bed at 8:30 and I walk in the room and say “Do you want the light off?” She replies “No I’m only taking a nap.” “Starting at 8:30?” I inquire?” She nods her head and then continues to fall into a deep sleep. I highly doubt she will be waking up only to go to bed again. Why not just brush your teeth and stuff and then just go to bed?
Normally at this time of night Ashley and I would be simultaneously using our laptops to do various things online. But Ashley is gone. Gone back to Canada… I now have no one to virtually spend time with side by side but in complete silence. We will be virtually spending time with each other on Skype soon I hope.
So as much as I like Sundays… I kinda dread them. All day your having a good time, but it’s hard to enjoy it because the coming workday is hanging heavy overhead. It’s like there’s a little man with a crazy beard, coffee stained shirt, and an empty brief case (it is empty because people don’t actually carry things in them. They just carry them so that people think they are busy) sitting on your shoulder whispering into your ear saying “Tomorrow is work. You have to spend all day staring at a boring desktop screen, and doing inane tasks that give you no sense of accomplishment.” I hate that little guy.
I’ve just noticed something about myself. I always think that there are little invisible men on my shoulders whispering into my ear, and making my life miserable.
Courtney just briefly woke up. I heard her walking. I think she is now back in bed.
This thing that we call a weekend… Is it really a weekend? I like to think of it as a week-beginning. You start the week off with some fun, then you do the boring stuff. Eat your desert first. You never know if your going to have room for your strawberry pie if your eating all the roast beef. That way you don’t have to stuff in the pie at the last minute making yourself feel bloated and crampy. Just my philosophies.
I wish that I could slow time. Every morning I wish that I could clench my fist at the clock and make the hands stop moving so that I could get an hour more of sleep. Then when I am refreshed and reenergized I can unclench my fist at the clock and time begins to move again. Or fast forwarding time through extremely boring parts of my life like Biology class. That would be my super power. Manipulating time. Everyone always says flying or mind reading. Well thats just a waist of time and energy…
I wish I wasn’t so sleep dependent…
This goes out to all those people who are sitting on their couch on Sunday night and thinking to themselves… ” I don’t want to go to work tomorrow.”
Best Wishes,
Carli
