Television

Within the past two years I have discovered that there are actually really good shows on television. Before that I was stuck watching Animal Planet and Grey's Anatomy reruns with my mom. After I discovered The Office, about 6 seasons late, and fell in love with it's humor I realized that the TV world is way more appealing than I thought. I then proceeded to make lists of shows that I wanted to watch. I wasn't really aware that Netflix was a TV thing so I never got to watch anything I wanted to. I have a rule when it comes to just about everything that has a beginning. It is "Thou shalt always start from the beginning, never the middle, never the end." This may even be my motto. I hate not knowing what has happened before because you miss so much! What I am trying to say is that I am still really behind on my TV shows. I have started watching them on Hulu which I love. I have noticed that people either love it or hate it. On Monday I got Netflix and I am not sure how I feel about it yet.
Pros:
No commercials.
A lot of my favorite shows are on there.
Cons:
It mostly just a bunch of crap movies and shows.

I spent a long time sifting through it trying to find the gems. Here's what I found.

Shows that I have seen and love:
This show is the best. Ever. Fact: My best friends uncle's cousin is Jason Bateman. They played together as kids. I almost feel related to fame.
Ok so the thing is... Outsourced was first and indie film (on Netflix) then a TV show (not on Netflix but on Hulu). In my opinion the TV show is better than the movie, but they are both good. I love Gupta.
Enough said.
Pan Am is not on Netflix or Hulu, and it was cancelled. I was so upset. First of all, it was such an amazing show. The characters are so dynamic. I now have this dream of being a flight attendant. I loved the style, music, adventures, and the history too. I love movies and show that include real history. I basically freaked out after watching the season finale with that cliffhanger! And when I found out that I would never know if Teddy and Laura would ever be together (stupid pregnant ex-fiance) I was devistated. Is anyone else as upset as I?
Pushing Daisies is one of my all time favorites. It's a whimsical murder mystery with a twist. "I would kiss you if it wouldn't kill me." This show was cancelled as well, and it's not on Netflix or Hulu.... but I highly suggest finding it and watching it.

Shows I want to see:
Last week I watched the first episode at a friends house and now I want to see more.
I have a friend that quotes this daily.
Said friend quotes this daily too.

This is not a completed list. I feel like there is too many to list in one sitting.
If you have a favorite show I would love to hear about it! What do you like/dislike about Netflix/Hulu? Have any questions about my favorite shows? Or just want to talk about them?
I know that there are a lot of things I should be doing instead of watching TV all day... but what can you do?

Record Tuesday: The Black Keys with Lonely Boy

Lonely Boy by The Black Keys on Grooveshark
Lonely Boy by The Black Keys

Is it just me or does the guitar at the beginning of this song make you think of Andy from The Office? Please tell me you hear it. "Ruby-dooby-do-ba-ruby-dooby-doo". You know... because when Andy sings he always sings the guitar part with a lot of "ruby-do-be's". Never mind...

Too Long.

Last night when I got home from work I noticed my lonely little camera bag sitting in a far corner of the room & inside that lonely little camera bag was an even lonelier camera that has not had the opportunity to snap a photograph in far too long. I then ran to that far corner grabbed that lonely bag pulled out that lonelier camera and beheld it in my capable hands and said “I am sorry for paying no attention to you. Will you forgive me?” If that lonelier little camera could talk he would say “Take a picture and I will forgive you.”
That is exactly what I did. Since it was cold outside and I rarely like to venture up the stairs and into the cold, I settled for taking pictures of my home…

Can we just take a moment to admire these lovely plates and bowls that I found at the DI for way cheap. I love that they are modern with a touch of vintage.

Can we also take a moment to admire the lovely Andy Warhol Campbell’s Soup print? This is another of my most prized thrifted items.

Before Courtney’s wedding I decided to make her a felt flower bouquet… Saying that it didn’t work out is an understatement. It killed me to know how much time was wasted making those and they weren’t even used. So I made a garland. :)

I just love getting notes from my roomy on big test days.
I honestly need to start taking more pictures again…
Happy Wednesday!

Halloween.

Halloween weekend was pretty good. It wasn’t the most amazing weekend, but it was good. I have just been really stressed about school… SO many essays, tests, and presentations to do. You know how when you can’t have the greatest time of your life because you have deadlines to worry about?! Story of my life… and the reason why I am a week late with this post…
Due to my busyness I didn’t spend months deciding on my costume, I did not spend hours making it, and I didn’t go to any events that were worthy of such hard work. The following is what I was able to pull together.
image
Oh please! Oh please! Tell me that you know exactly who I am and that you don’t think I am just a regular nerd/geek. Personally I think that the nerd/geek costume has become overrated. Let me see… you have the cute nerd, the legit nerd, the weirdo nerd, and my least favorite… the sexy nerd. Let me talk about sexy costumes. They must stop, and that is all I way say because my opinion on this matter is possibly too strong for words.
If you looked at my costume and thought really hard about it and still don’t know who I was then I forgive you, but promise me you will watch The Office. Dwight is my most favoritest character. Ashley was Phyllis. We love Phyllis.

(I am really bad at facial expressions… so this is my “Dwight Face” I figured that he is one of those people that don’t smile in their school photo…)
This was for Friday. Ashley and I went to a couple dances. Although we hardly knew anyone there I decided to dance crazy because it had been too long since I had danced. After I danced myself out we left. It was a very good evening. We even stayed out until 2! Which I haven’t done in like 7 months… I am such an old person.
On Halloween I contemplated staying at home and writing my essay… I am glad I didn’t because I accomplished my dreams of being something sick nasty for Halloween. I also accomplished another dream of mine which was to be a zombie and terrorize people. We went to down town SLC and zombie walked around. At first it was so hard to get into character but after a while I could stare people down and chase them as they walked by. One lady thought we were so scary that she wouldn’t come near us. A couple people asked for pictures and one whacko lady yelled at me for dancing to her crazy singing. She told me that Halloween was yesterday (which by the way was not right). I don’t understand why she was so mad at me. I thought she was street performing and wanted people to dance along. I now understand that she was hallucinating… I was afraid she was going to come after me. She could have definitely taken me down.

And again with the bad facial expressions. I look like a snarling dog…

I am the hiring manager! No. Your the assistant to the hiring manager.

You know how in The Office Dwight always says hes the Regional Manager but Jim always says Assistant to the Regional Manager?! Well that is tots me. I am Dwight telling everyone I am the Hiring Manager. Because in my opinion I kindof am.
On Wednseday my boss informed me that I was going to be in charge of all the hiring. Not just the prescreening and putting out the adds on Craigslist. I will be doing the interviews and deciding who to hire. Frighting! I have never had such an important position in my life! Thanks to my boss and his encouraging words I am now slightly enthusiastic about my possition. Mostly because I get to tell people I am the Hiring Manager, but that is more like an exaggeration…. Today I spent the day prepairing myself for this position. I decided to clean up my messy cubicle, throw out old papers, wipe that wierd stain off the far corner of my desk that I have been afraid to touch (it came right off!), and getting rid of that sandwich bag of pretzles that has been hiding behind my monitor for the past month. I then moved stuff around. I moved this file thing around my desk like four times and then decided to put it right back to where originally was. It’s better that way.
Good news is that I hired someone already! I am just terrified that he is going to be a really sucky employee and all my bosses are going to be P.Oed at me.
Right after I hired the first guy I got a call from a guy wanting a job and he did not really seem like he was that enthusiastic and stuff. This is what I said after I decided not to hire him.
Carli: ok so, ummm.
Him: Silent.
Carli: I will… Ummm give you…
Him: Silent.
Carli: Can I… Ummmmmm…… Call… you…. back?
Him: Uh, yeah…
Carli: Ok ummm… Have a great weekend… God bye.
I then hung up. I seriously had no idea how to tell the guy I wasnt interested in hiring him. Then felt all bad because he sounded like he really needed a job. Then I thought I was a horrible person because I am not going to call him back, and I just denied this guy from his livlihood! I am a horrible person!
Here are some things that I am trying to overcome:
Feeling sorry for people.
Not knowing what to say.
Saying ummm. I seriously would be an awesome meditator because I have the ummmm part down pat. If I just add an “h” and say hummmmmm instead….
Stuffing food behind my monitor and forgetting about it.
So… If you are a cool enthusiastic person who needs a job and will not make me look like a fool then you have the right to ask me for a job. I would hesitantly oblige.. (is that how that word is spelt?!) I am also trying to overcome me horrible spelling…

Dunder Mifflin Corpus Christi

  • Whitney: Did you see that huge fire?!
  • Nicole: I just saw the smoke. My Dad said they are burning brush at King Ranch.
  • Whitney: No... That fire is at Dunder Mifflin Corpus Christi branch. Ryan started the fire when he made a cheesy pita.
  • Nicole: Really?!
  • (Carli and Whitney silently laugh)
  • Carli: Yes. It's a paper company so that place really lit up fast.
  • Whitney: Yeah old paper burns fast.
  • Carli: They have been down on sales since Jim left.
  • Nicole: Wow.
  • (Carli and Whitney laugh harder)
  • Carli: I really hope Pam made it out ok.
  • Whitney: Me too.
  • (more laughing)
  • Nicole: Why are you laughing?
  • Carli: There is no Dunder Mifflin Corpus Christi branch. You are so gullible.
