Life is... busy.

I am sorry if you have noticed how slow it has been around here lately. Or how the quality of my posts are dropping. It has literally been a busy week. It's a combination of being way busy, and partly uninspired. As frustrating as it is to be completely uninspired, it has been born of a busy work week. Somehow a bunch of side job opportunities sprung up out of nowhere that have allowed me to put a little bit more money into that savings count of mine that seems to be collecting dust. It is starting to get back to normal but I have a feeling that it won't last long. I am moving back to Utah in less than a month! Last night I had a dream that I was moving the next day and that I hadn't done any of the things that I have wanted/need to do before I move back. Suffice to say, I freaked out... and while I may not be moving tomorrow, I have a huge list full of things I wanted to accomplish this summer that haven't been crossed off. But then again, things are a lot different than what I expected for the summer. As excited as I am to go back and do the "college life" thing, I am really sad to go. Even though I will be coming back, it just won't be the same. This summer is exactly what I needed and more, but there are bigger and better things out there for me. This summer has been comfortable, stable, rewarding, spiritual; but also hard.

This week I am hoping to be able to go watch the sunrise out at the beach. I just want to sit out there and be inspired. I want to clear my head and think about the future. There is so much ahead of me. So many big choices, struggles, triumphs, experiences, and adventures. I just want to plan out my next move, make lists, and set goals.

I have a few pretty little posts for this week that I am excited to share. I promise that things will get back to normal (or even better) soon.

Changes.

I discovered today that I dislike changes. OK, sometimes I love changes. Other times I don’t. It is hard to like changes when you aren’t sure what all they entail… and when you are perfectly happy where you are.
Every day I come into work and sit down at my nice big secluded cubicle. A while later my two very funny co workers come and we playfully banter throughout the day. Then my boss will walk in with tape on his face or wearing a rent a cop uniform for fun. How is that not a great way to spend the day?
Well, last week they decided to close down my department. Everyone is being moved around within the company. In a couple weeks I will be taking over the front desk after the receptionist moves away. I am also taking on many admin duties. Stressful! Yesterday my boss took my co workers and I to lunch (sooo good). Then we cleaned out the office. I’ll be in here for a couple more weeks. When I walked in this morning it was empty except for my cubicle. Sad.
Another sad thing. Apparently someone accidentally un plugged the mini fridge last night and my chicken penne pasta left overs from yesterdays lunch were spoiled along with my hot pocket that I was going to eat for breakfast today. Life sucks sometimes.
A little bit of reminiscing. Velveteen Rabbit doing my job for me.

New Desk

Today is Monday. And I have a new cubicle desk at work. It’s 3x the size of my previous one. This excites me. I now have room to do the henious tasks that I get paid to do… Not that I didn’t have room to do these things before, there just wasn’t space for me to have any clutter. I firmly belive that a little clutter is a creative muse for those looking for a creative muse. If cleanliness and orderliness is a creative muse then a small cubicle would be great for you. Now in my opinion there is a fine line between clutter and just plain messy. When I say clutter I mean some papers scattered, pens not in the pen holder, maybe a couple empty root beer bottles, and a note pad with more doodles then actual notes. Clutter does not mean strange stains, old dirty spoons, used klenex, and crumbs from your crumbly breakfast donught scattered amongst the other things that inhabit your desk.
I am actually worried that I have too much space, there are large spaces that are void of office desk things. I just now realized that I actually don’t have much work related stuff to actually put on my desk. Tomorrow I am going to bring in some pictures and maybe a couple little items that will fill these voids…
Until then, I will spread out the few items that I do have across the entirety of my oversized desk.

Never Again.

First of all, I have a watch tan. My watch tan is so defined that if I drew little numbers and a clock hands, it looks as if I could be wearing a skin colored watch. Now I have to wear a watch all the time to cover up my watch!
Second, I have blisters on the bottom of my feet that cause me to walk like an old woman. Imagine this…. Me hunched over, very bent knees, and walking on the outside of my feet. This has also caused my knees to hurt as well.
Third, I am extremely sunburnt. I searched the entire basement this morning for sunscreen and found none. I also have a sunglasses tan in addition to my watch tan. I’d take the watch over the sunglasses any day.
Why has this happened to me? I blame Courtney (although it is not at all her fault and she was just trying to help me out). Since I was on vacation to Texas the week before last my pay check was sliced in half. So I was worried about getting all my bills paid. Courtney who works as a office manager at a daily work daily pay place called Labor Finders got my job for today. I worked 9 long hours at the Utah Fair Grounds cleaning up trash for an event. It was not at all fun. I had to work with creepy men who would not leave me alone. Then I had to give them all rides. I had to breath in their second hand smoke, listen to their foul language, and pick up the pace when they slacked off. It was also extremely hot. Of course it is a perfect day with no clouds in the sky to shield me from the sun. I was praying for cloudy weather, and guess when that cloudy weather came. Right after I left!!!!!!!
Anyways…. That is why I am now crippled.
But this does make me appreciate the people who do this for a living. That is extremely hard work for such little pay. There I was complaining about it when these people do it to pay the bills every day. I am so grateful for my job, and the money I have. Although I hated every second of it, I am glad that I did it. I feel that I have felt a glimpse of what it is like to be out of a steady job and to be hurting for money. Now I am going to do everything in my power to be successful and to never have to live in that way.
Some times you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do…

Life Ambitions.

Growing up I put a lot of thought into what I wanted to be as an adult. The range of professions has been quite far reached. Here are a few of the professions I contemplated… and the reasons I gave up on those dreams.
Astronaut: I get motion sickness easily.
Veterinarian: I can barley stand watching the Animal Hospital shows on Animal Planet. Watching animals be sliced open gives me the heebie jeebies.
Lumberjack: The reason for this was because I liked their hats, plaid shirts and the plethora of opportunities they have to say “TIMBER!!”. But unfortunalty I don’t have much arm strength.
Actress: Simply, I am a horrible actress.
Scientist: I can hardly pay attention in biolgy.
Interior Deisgner: My family told me that I could’nt be this. I don’t remember the reason.
Day care owner: uh. no thanks. I can only handle so many kids at one time.
Pastry Chef: It would be so cool to own a little pastry shop! Except for the fact that I burn just about everything that I bake.
Foot Model: This is a recent one. I saw an opening on craigslist. I thought my feet were nice. But Craigslist doesn’t seem like the best place to get a foot modeling position.
Professional Scuba Diver: Depending on what I would be diving for… If it were dead bodies, Heck no. Treasure, Heck Yes! Bad thing is that I am terrified of sharks and such.
Professional Soccer Player: Fact is that I am not good at soccer.
Ok so the point of this blog post is that I have decided what I want to be! Although I am going to college for Speech Language Pathology, all I want to be is a crafter! I just want to make stuff all day long and then blog about it and be an extremely successful Etsy shop owner! I want a craft room with tons of crafting supplies and sweet home decor that I made myself. I also want to sell my stuff in a variety of craft fairs! I lately have become obessed with reading crafter blogs. So many projects that i want to embark on. Someday….In the mean time I will continue my schooling, and dreaming big.
This is an example of my dream craft room. I could live in that room and never leave.

I am the hiring manager! No. Your the assistant to the hiring manager.

You know how in The Office Dwight always says hes the Regional Manager but Jim always says Assistant to the Regional Manager?! Well that is tots me. I am Dwight telling everyone I am the Hiring Manager. Because in my opinion I kindof am.
On Wednseday my boss informed me that I was going to be in charge of all the hiring. Not just the prescreening and putting out the adds on Craigslist. I will be doing the interviews and deciding who to hire. Frighting! I have never had such an important position in my life! Thanks to my boss and his encouraging words I am now slightly enthusiastic about my possition. Mostly because I get to tell people I am the Hiring Manager, but that is more like an exaggeration…. Today I spent the day prepairing myself for this position. I decided to clean up my messy cubicle, throw out old papers, wipe that wierd stain off the far corner of my desk that I have been afraid to touch (it came right off!), and getting rid of that sandwich bag of pretzles that has been hiding behind my monitor for the past month. I then moved stuff around. I moved this file thing around my desk like four times and then decided to put it right back to where originally was. It’s better that way.
Good news is that I hired someone already! I am just terrified that he is going to be a really sucky employee and all my bosses are going to be P.Oed at me.
Right after I hired the first guy I got a call from a guy wanting a job and he did not really seem like he was that enthusiastic and stuff. This is what I said after I decided not to hire him.
Carli: ok so, ummm.
Him: Silent.
Carli: I will… Ummm give you…
Him: Silent.
Carli: Can I… Ummmmmm…… Call… you…. back?
Him: Uh, yeah…
Carli: Ok ummm… Have a great weekend… God bye.
I then hung up. I seriously had no idea how to tell the guy I wasnt interested in hiring him. Then felt all bad because he sounded like he really needed a job. Then I thought I was a horrible person because I am not going to call him back, and I just denied this guy from his livlihood! I am a horrible person!
Here are some things that I am trying to overcome:
Feeling sorry for people.
Not knowing what to say.
Saying ummm. I seriously would be an awesome meditator because I have the ummmm part down pat. If I just add an “h” and say hummmmmm instead….
Stuffing food behind my monitor and forgetting about it.
So… If you are a cool enthusiastic person who needs a job and will not make me look like a fool then you have the right to ask me for a job. I would hesitantly oblige.. (is that how that word is spelt?!) I am also trying to overcome me horrible spelling…

Oh Nooo!

My boss asked me to start coming in a 7 AM. That is 7 in the morning. I don’t even awake until after eight! I would have to go to bed at 10:00 PM to get my minimum amount of sleep required for me to function… which is eight hours. Thats the min. I don’t believe I have a max.
“The early bird always gets the worm.” Uh I personally do not care about the worm. I would rather sleep and go hungry. Most the time I do that. I wake up to late for breakfast (which is ok with me because I am not a big fan of breakfast. I always feel nauseous after I eat it.)
But, there are some pros to this!
I get off at 4 which means I have time to get things done!
Ok so thats the only pro I can think of right now…
Losing sleep,

Ode To The Job.

(Poetry written out of boredom. Primarily written to help pass the time at work.)
Salmon colored chair, how uncomfortable you are. In every position I have sat and still you cause a pain in my lower back.
Blue background on my desktop screen how very boring you may seem. But imagination helps me to see a window that over looks the deep blue sea.
Chlostrophobic I have never felt, but here in this lonesome cubicle I feel nothing else. Back to the microwave nose to the north, I count down the seconds until I can walk out that door.
Deep blue radio that sits apon the desk, plays the music that I detest. Over and over the same horrid songs. But sometimes I find myself painfully singing along. As I listen I hope and pray that the radio will turn up missing some day.
So many people I call in one day pulling information in every way. Sneaky I am, unaware they are. I feel bad some times but others I feel not. Satisfaction arrives when I push the button F9.
Judging by the way I have described this place, you may think it is horrible in almost every way. But out of boredome this poem has become. I like this job believe it or not.

A Box For Thinking.

I sit in a cubicle eight hours a day. Looking at the blue desktop background of my little out dated Dell computer. When I get tired of that view I lift my eyes to the grey wall of my cubicle. Sometimes I poke my pencil into the dull fabric that makes up the cubicle wall, pretending that I am trapped in a box and need some air to pass through those holes into my lungs. Sometimes I draw. Then get annoyed at the fact that my attempts at drawing a beautiful women fails misribly. I them take these pictures home and hang them above Courtneys bed and make fun of them with her. Some how this corrects the sorrow I feel for those drawings. That those sad people I draw will never be looked at as beautiful.
But in this small lonely cubicle I make plans. I dream big. Make decisions. Learn new things about life. It is a place for thinking.
This is the only time I have to really sit down and think. Plus I’m getting paid to do it.
I feel some sort of anger towards the people who pick up on the other side of the phone line. Those people that are too busy to answer a few quick questions. Those who are to private to share their beliefs. Those who are to brain washed to be realistic. Those who are too sad to be kind. Those who are to passionate to be humble. I talk to so many people who feel like I’m an intruder into their lives. Maybe I am. But I feel like they are intruding into my life with their snide comments and unfair judgments. I’m just an honest girl doing somewhat unhonest work so that I can someday live a life that I have been and now am working towards. Isn’t that what we are all doing?
That’s all for now. Carli

Things Are Falling Into Place.

Two weeks. That’s it. Only two weeks in Utah and I already feel like this is where I am supposed to be.
I have made some amazing friends. Done some amazing things and have fallen in love with mountains.
So I got a great job! Its boring but very simple. The best part is that I get paid to sit there and read, text, internet search, doodle, and other things. Best part is that when I start school I can do my home work at work.
Speaking of school. My application process for BYU has been long and stressfull. After almost 10 months of waiting I have finally received a decision. So I was sitting at work bored so I decide to check. I was admitted! I just about jumped out of my chair and screamed like a crazy person but that would have been unprofessional. So I settled with a fist pump and a silent “oh yeah!”.
I just can’t believe how lucky I am. I feel like I’m on cloud nine. Maybe I am. Carli

Bitter Sweet.

Today I experienced a sadness that I did not expect. I believed that on my last day of work I would walk out of those doors and jump for joy. Instead I ran out of the doors with a heavy heart and a cake in hand. People grow on you… You think you may not care about someone but when you realize that you won’t be spending a lot of time doing heinous tasks with them anymore you become sad. Such people have a certain effect on your life in some way that you don’t realize until the end. You grow together. You learn together. You learn from their mistakes, they learn from yours. You help each other. You complain together.
I am thankful for the experience I had at Century 16. I will miss everyone there.
But….
I will not miss the late nights, horrible music, the messy customers, the mean customers, the clueless customers, the clogged toilets, the slippery floors, the way making popcorn makes me sick, the nights that they pour out all the milk that expired but is still good for a couple more days and it breaks my heart to watch it go down the drain, the registers that are a piece of crap, I could go on but will not.
Today is the end of a chapter, tomorrow is the beginning of a new chapter that is hopefully better then the last.

People...

It seems that my job has turned me into a person that mutters mean words under their breath, has fantasies about punching people an other rude things, and giving people the intensest evil eye possible. I absolutely hate working with people. All I ask of to world is to be kind to your fellow man. To those who are working those horrid jobs so that you can enjoy some entertainment. Don’t shoot the middle men. Don’t blow things out of proportion before you find out there is a simple solution. We are all people in this world. We all have to deal with ridiculous things. There’s no reason to get overly upset about a small thing. That’s all I ask. Thank you… Carli
